Contested a partial season for Dreyer & Reinbold Racing bringing home three top-10 finishes in eight starts, including a 10th-place finish in the Indianapolis 500 aboard the #99 William Rast entry where he was the fastest second-day qualifier

Contested the Indianapolis 500 in the #90 Rock & Republic entry for Vision Racing finishing 22nd after a suspension failure / Signed to factory Lexus ALMS team before the program was canceled

Piloted the #2 ROCKSTAR entry for Panther Racing at Michigan, qualifying 10th and finishing 15th after contact 20 laps from the end; credited with the fastest race lap

Won the championship with Dorricott Racing over Dan Wheldon claiming six wins, eight pole positions and eight podium finishes / Became the first American to win the championship since 1993 / Set eight series’ track records and became the first driver in series history to lap the entire field with his victory at Milwaukee / Won the Indy Lights Nation’s Cup as the single USA entry / Claimed the Worldcom Fast Pace Award for most number of fast laps during the season / Made Champ Car Series debut with two races for Patrick Racing in Germany and England where he scored his first series’ point with a 12th-place drive
2000 Dayton Indy Lights Championship
Finished second in the championship with Dorricott Racing in a down-to-the-wire battle between Scott / Dixon and Casey Mears, losing out to Dixon by only nine points in the season finale / Earned Rookie of the Year honors / Season results included two wins, two pole positions and six podium finishes as well as two track records / Claimed the Bosch Platinum Oval Championship for most oval points / Elected to the 2000 CART All-Star Team
